A colorful intervention in the desert landscape as a monument to the the cultural continuity of Cahuilla traditions on Cahuilla ancestral land.

Desert Dance is a monument to the the cultural continuity of Cahuilla traditions on Cahuilla ancestral land. Clarke, who is a bird singer and longtime resident of the Cahuilla Reservation in Anza, as well as an internationally acclaimed artist, created a colorful intervention in the desert landscape that he knows so well. Inspired by the swirling ribbon skirts of bird dancers, the sculpture is activated by the abundant wind sweeping through the valley. This installation serves as a vibrant visual marker of Cahuilla presence which has otherwise largely been erased, changing our view of the Anza Borrego Desert while connecting us to the land and each other.
