Bio
Each year, students from Borrego Springs High School work closely with mentor artists to develop a body of work for a gallery exhibition as part of the Candlewood Arts Festival. The students learn new techniques and approaches to art making, develop a body of work throughout the school year, and collectively determine a curatorial framework for their exhibition.
Since Jake Freilich developed the program in 2021–22, nearly 100 young artists have participated over the years, with numerous students spending multiple years in the program, learning from different artists in different media. Star Montana has led the program since Fall 2024.
